I thought I read an article a few months back stating that Intel was going to a quad core processor. The P4 is pushing the limits on heat for the price consumers are willing to pay.
I am not a pentium whore. In my home PC I'm running an overclocked celeron 2.93 chip on an ASUS P4C800E Deluxe board. The board is outstanding. I just purchased a 480W power supply to boost performance. However, on my laptop I have an AMD processor and have not problems with it either. I just use the laptop for school, since I'm the eternal student.
For performance versus price, I say go with celeron. You can make up for any losses with a good matched set of ram. No more than 2 gig unless you do a lot of video editing.

Can a Celeron be easily made to perform well on graphic intensive games? That is where I have always seen them struggle in the past, even with gobs of ram.

Celeron's perform poorly in comparison to Pentiums and AMD's. They bottle neck the information even with alot of memory.

I haven't had any issues thus far. Isn't there a site to test your performance? I have used it in the past, but can't remember what it is. Maybe we can run our systems and compare.
I also built my system to upgrade to a P4 chip when the prices fell.

Part true. The celeron used to be unstable pentiums. that is why overclocking is easier with a celeron. Now there is a cache difference as well.

Maybe so, but I can't find any software I want on any other OS. So that makes the decision.
