I am aware that possibly only two or three people on this site care, but yesterday was a particullary dark day.
Though we already knew, yesterday confirmed for us the obvious.
This spring, for the first time since the Flu Pandemic of 1918, there will be no biscuits in baskets, no putting it top shelf where momma keeps the peanut butter, nor quadruple-overtime-sudden-death-game-winners.
There will not be a cinderella from the west. No one will take one for the team and no one will low bridge. No one will find a way to break the trap. No "Hulls" will be in the crease.
No one will be rubbed out along the boards, nor caught looking at their feet as they cross the blue line. No one will crosscheck, and no one will be there to put them in the "sin bin" if they do. There will be no 25mph skaters firing 105mph lasers.
There will be no jump, no broken twigs, and no playoff beards. No names will be added to the cup, and no legends (like Jerome's last shift in Game 6 last year) will be created.
The ponds are not frozen, and the arenas--like our hearts--are empty. For the first time in 8 years, there is no hope that Lord Stanley's Cup will come to, or even pass through Nashville. How I yearn to hear once again, "Game On!"
This spring the sun will rise and and warm the land and the lake, but it will not replace for us the loss of the greatest of sports spectacles, The Stanley Cup Playoffs. For those of you who don't now or never did care, I envy you. You don't know what your missing.
Carry on.

This is truly sad. Not only are we robbed of the Stanley Cup playoffs we are also depriceved from the only sports allstar game that is worth watching. Not to mention the superskills competition. I guess all I can say is Go Icebears!

I morn with you Highlord, but you look to the cold dark heart the rests in the chest of the pro game at its highest level, I can still see hope and light at nights darkest hour. The Frozen Four will still be played, played for the right reasons, played for glory. You can still see guys gutting it out one more year trying to make it way down in the low minors. You can still see the I and the A play full and fast. There are kids giving it all in junor leages all over the US and Canada. No Lord Stanly may not hold the names of the NHL's best this year enshrined in silver, but the game will live. The game will live and it will heal, kids will still sleep with dreams of being 99 with the puck behind the net twisting the goalies head into a knot. Kids will take a full head of steam down the ice into a empty net, and in that moment lift and kiss the cup for them selves. I will morn this black day, but I will look to the other days, the days of seeing the Calder Cup being lifted, the Kelly Cup being contested and I will watch a grown man cry as he is given the Hobey Baker Memorial Award in Columbus, Ohio in April. A black day for Lord Stanley, and a black day for hockey but not the end of hockey. Not the end, but maybe a refocusing on what makes the game special and dear.

Basketball is a thug sport now. It was an interesting game at one time. Now it is more about what happens off the court than on it. Plus, its level of passion, intensity, and the life lessons taught by playing it will never match Hockey's.
Points well taken Kev, but oh to see it played at its highest level again.
Think of all the things we were robbed of this season. Would St Loius be able to keep it up? Was Vinny Lecavlier for real? What would the rematch between Bertuzzi's Cunucks against he Avs be like? Was Paul Kariya and Eric Lindros truly washed up? Could anyone pull the big "S" off Jerome Iginla's chest?
And for the worst part, think of the greats we may never see play again. Names like Messier, Andreychuk, Stevens, Chelios, Francis, MacInnis, Hasek, Nieuwendyk, Lemieux, and Yzerman to list only a few. Alot of Hall of Famers are at retirement age. Will they come back after a two year layoff?
Are the good times really over for good?

Groiny we can always hope that the pain will leave us next year and enjoy our minor league hockey in the mean time.

Andrew, I'm not being an ass here, but I'm assuming you haven't witnessed NHL hockey up close and personal, like near or on the glass.
If you had, you'd see where I'm coming from man. But I salute you in your support for the home team.
The difference in skill and speed though is unbelievable

I'm not much of a Hockey fan, but seeing the Predators live is a treat. Nashville's stadium is pretty good for Hockey. Any chance to go is well worth it. TV does not do Hockey justice, that is why I think the league is losing money.

Are you back little child? I have a question for you, why don't you just come out and say what ever it is that is eating you up? This sniping and giving vague little hints about what transgression, real or imagined, Pat has put over on you, is getting old. Just put it out for all of us to know and discuss. I assure you , silly screen name aside, if it is truly horrible that punishment will be assigned to the appropriate parties.
