Paty Cockrum, long-time member of the legendary Marvel Bullpen, wife of beloved X-Men co-creator Dave Cockrum, and fearless crusader for all things fair & honest, continues her "unveiling" of the current Marvel conspiracy...
OK... we come to modern day Marvel. The pogrom of Magneto is still their main concern, so FACE [editor’s note: see Down In Flames 3 for an explanation of “FACE”]…goaded and directed clandestinely by, we suspect Mark Millar (since we know from inside sources that Avengers Disassembled was his idea) glommed Xavier and Magneto away from Claremont, cancelled the book out from under him, told the readership that it was only on hiatus, so the readership would fall off and they could use the declining numbers of orders that the retailers would make as a reason for cancellation—when it had been cancelled all the way back at the turn of the year—probably after issue #8 or so. They had not hyped this “landmark” book because they didn’t want it to do well… but it had done respectably anyway, word-of-mouth spreading that Claremont had Magneto again and things could get interesting finally with the character.
Fans waited with bated breath… but subterfuge was afoot. The FACE schmucks couldn’t stand the freakin’ Jew being so popular!
So they pounced. They obviously coerced and/or threatened Claremont, stole Xavier and Mags out from under him, cancelled his book in mid-arc (something so blatantly unprofessional as to boggle the mind) and proceeded to do Avengers Disassembled, which led right into House of M, designed to be the vehicle they would use to destroy Claremont and the hated back story once and for all. What Harras had failed to do in 10+ years, they were bound and determined to do. Erudite fans, who could read between the lines, warned fandom of this but were ignored or poo-poo’ed with a “wait and see” platitude.
Then… something very interesting happened. In a forum, suddenly Joey the Q—who should have been riding high on the new contract and Creative Director of East Coast Publications—got very defensive saying that the EiC job was not a permanent gig; that he “missed” being in a creative roll; that all jobs were finite. Sentiments like that. WTF? What was this? Joey sounding nervous and defensive? Covering his ass? What was up? This didn’t sound right. Something was UP!
Something had gone down that made the Q very nervous. What could it have been? Fans writing in to protest the destruction of Magneto, Scott, and other core personalities of X-dom? Fans finally getting tired of the Emma and Scott adultery thing? Titillation lost? Boredom with the desultory House of M storyline setting in? What?!
No one knew. Mostly because no one at Marvel was talking, probably on pain of expulsion. But Whedon wasn’t “one of the boys.” They couldn’t control him. He was a “wild card” that didn’t need Marvel . And on top of that, he respected Claremont’s genius and skill as a writer and wouldn’t let them yank either him or Chris around on a leash. So they cut him out of the planning—the information cycle of their little pogrom. They told fans that everyone was cooperating, enthusiastic and happy with the storyline of House of M, and this was just not true. And finally, Whedon blew the whistle on the lie.
This, in and of itself, would not have been enough to make someone like Joey the Q get nervous. What was the biggie? Even reading between the lines has limitations, y’know.
Well… It’s here: The big clue. The most recent Wolverine is the most blatant exercise in anti-Semitism and misinformation about the Holocaust storylines that has ever been printed. And the boys at Marvel knew it, but they allowed it to be printed anyway. And now, seeing it in print, they are beginning to think maybe they have finally shown the world their true colors…if the world is looking! And they are quaking in their shoes and shitting their pants that someone is gonna see what they have so crassly done and call them on it.
The story equates victims of the Holocaust—the whole Holocaust tragedy—with modern day rabid American exploitation of the middle east (as viewed by the snobbish Brit/Scots aristocracy of Morrison and Millar, terpsichorean) and suggests that the Holocaust victims deserved what they got just as Americans deserved what they got on 911 because of their greedy, colonial policies aimed at “poor Saddam” the genocidal maniac. As per usual, they have completely ignored established Canon that Logan was with Captain America in the liberation of the death camps. They made him a victim! Canon and continuity mean nothing to these children when they are on a crusade to destroy someone or something… and Marvel is in chaos right now because of their childish and inept leadership, storylines, agendas and bigotries!
The boyos, having seen the issue printed, finally knew they had gone too far and showed their sentiments for what they were… blatant anti-Semitism and racism. No subtleties to tone it down. Bald-faced and blatant.
And then, to top it off, they called the annual Editor’s conflab up in the wilds of New York State, which usually occurs in November or December, and to which selected writers are invited. And this is happening right now. They are probably working out their stories of who to blame and trying to come up with something—anything—to cover their asses since even the fans who frequent the internet chat boards and forums are calling them on this Wolverine issue and the inconsistencies of their stories and lies this whole past summer.
Ladies and gents, if you loved the Marvel of yore, the Camelot that was, the House of Ideas, write and express your displeasure and outrage to Isaac Perlmutter, Alan Fine and Avi Arad at Marvel Entertainment Inc., 417 Fifth Ave., New York, NY10016. Let them know you will not accept this kind of intolerance, bigotry, mucking about with tragic history and propaganda in their books (not to mention the total destruction of characters that you have loved and followed for decades!)
All it takes for evil to win is for good people to do NOTHING! And right now Marvel is peopled with a plethora of evil men. Start observing. Start reading between the lines. All they have done for years is lie to the readership. And a lot of the readership, being young and not knowing HOW IT WAS, accepts the lies as truth. The bullies and bigots are going to take this shining light from us and extinguish it if we don’t do something. They have gone too far this time and they are nervous about it. Call them on it! Please! Letters, emails, boycotts! Only Fandom Assembled and outraged can save what was once so shining and filled with possibilities.
Don’t let it be forgot… that ONCE there was a spot…for one, brief, shining moment…
