It's not just the hard drive.
It's the wi-fi adapter, the SD/Memory Stick slot, AND the HDMI output.
Also, it's not upgradable from the lower-end to the higher end. I don't really see myself getting one, at least not for 2 or so years after launch.

Yeah, if I do get one it'll be later on. With moderate to high power Dells out there now only around 499 with lots of bells and whistles it just doesn't make sense.

I went trough and priced some of the componets seperately and it is using an RSX (Reality Synthesizer) which is based on Nvidia technology. RSX is as powerful as two GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards. Which run about $450 each. It plays, normal DVD's, Playstation 1 & 2 games. You can use blue tooth controllers. They have to be costing Sony $800-$1,000 a unit. So, as with past units they expect the game sales to make them the money. The downside is Playstation games may cost more than PS2 games did. I woulnd't go out and buy one within the first year. They technology will have some hiccups. The price though for what is in that unit is pretty good.

Price is good. I know people who have spent upwards of 2000 on a gaming computer. That is insane. The games for computers is 50 or so. My philosophy is to spend 2000 on LCD HDTV, enjoy it for movies and such, 450 on PS3 and buy my standard 2 to 3 games a year or acquire them otherwise. It is all in how you look at it.

For $600...one could buy four 55 gallon drums of Unleaded Gas, and sell them in a couple of months when the price goes much higher.

The thing for the PS3 I'm most looking forward to is the image of Pat trying to play games with a motion-sensitive controller.

Reeves says he thinks "[Sony] have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000" Following that he says "the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games."
those are what i like to call stupid
